Assignment 1 - Formal Letter
Subject: Self-Introduction
Dear Mdm Fazlilah
My name is Devaraj Domingo, and I am currently in my first year of studying Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Land). I graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. The passion to be an engineer has its roots from polytechnic days, during which my interest grew even more when I had the opportunity to intern with SMRT. Throughout the internship, the exposure and insights in the railway industry made me became fascinated with trains, its operations and system. How train functions and moves mechanically are just some of the very few things that intrigued me and made me want to pursue a course in this field of study further.
One of my key strength in communication is that I am always open to receiving feedback and providing constructive inputs to others. For any group discussions or meetings that I am involved in, I would often do my best to share my personal views or opinions with the rest. Feedback is the basis of problem-solving, and I firmly believe that by exchanging feedbacks among one another, it can help to promote engagement and boost performance.
As for my weakness in communication, I am not a very confident speaker when it comes to presentation or public speaking. I tend to speak very fast and stutter words when I get nervous. Whenever an opportunity to do any form of presentation arises, i tend to avoid them and let others do it instead.
By the end of this module, I hope to have developed myself into a much more confident speaker, one who can articulate my thoughts and emotions clearly when presenting myself to a group of audience. Furthermore, I hope to be equipped with the necessary communication and writing skills needed before stepping out into the workforce.
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude for taking the time to read my self-introduction.
Yours Sincerely
Devaraj Domingo

Hi Raj!
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree that your strength in communication is providing constructive inputs. During our group project discussions, you are always open to suggestions and throwing ideas to keep the ball rolling. It is always good to have vocal individuals that helps in brainstorming ideas. I personally feel that building confidence in speaking comes with practice.
Yours Sincerely
Jantzen Lee
Hi Jantzen,
DeleteI am heartened to hear how my opinions and feedback has been helpful in our group project discussions. I will continue to make sure I practice to improve myself in becoming a confident speaker.
Hi Raj, I like how your passion in studying the operations of the trains during your internship in SMRT helped you choose this course. I too, used to be afraid of being on the stage alone when presenting to the class. With more courage to present during any opportunities you get during class will definitely improve your confidence when presenting!
ReplyDeleteHi Naz,
DeleteThank you for sharing your feedback and response. Let's work together on improving ourselves in Effective Communication class.
Hi Raj,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your self-introduction. I liked the way you how your passion for trains came to be and how led you this course; which is endearing to see. As i am afraid of public speaking myself, I can really understand what you are going through. Like how all our skills are gained by practicing, I believe that you are able to overcome this. I really look forward to be working with you as I believe you will be a very valuable asset with your knowledge and active involvement you can bring to the group.
Cheers,
Jue Qiang
Dear Devaraj
ReplyDeleteThank you for your letter.
You certainly have the quality of a good student and eventually a member of staff of an organisation, and that is being open to feedback. Such a quality enables one to develop and progress.
Like many students, speaking in public is not something they look forward to. Through this module, I hope you will not shy away from opportunities to speak in front of an audience. The only way to be a good speaker is to keep practising.
Best wishes for the module and your journey at SIT!
Kind regards
Faz (Mdm)
