Summary Reader Response Outline
Summarized Article’s Main Idea + Thesis Statement: (Level I Controlling Idea)
Singapore is pursuing and competing with other countries on incorporating driverless vehicles into their transportation system.
I. First Supporting Idea - (Level II Controlling Idea)
Technical Reference (TR68)
II. Second Supporting Idea - (Level II Controlling Idea)
Safer mobility and efficient transportation for the old aged and disabled
III. Third Supporting Idea - (Level II Controlling Idea)
Diving into the development phase of AVs
+ Your Main Idea/Thesis Statement: (Level I Controlling Idea)
While I agree with this to some extent with Noble's main assertion, I feel that with advantages also come disadvantages for AVs, which was something the writer has failed to include in this article.
IV. First Supporting Idea - (Level II Controlling Idea)
Malfunction or system failure of AVs.
a. Explanation of the supporting idea
During the trip or journey the AVs sensors may experience malfunctioning or failure due to poor weather condition or signal reception which may pose a safety risk to the drivers.
b. Example or citation which supports your assertion
“Autonomous vehicles have difficulty operating in certain types of weather. Heavy rain interferes with roof-mounted laser sensors, and snow can interfere with cameras.”
c. Other statements which help support your assertion
Accidents involving AVs.

V. Second Supporting Idea - (Level II Controlling Idea)
Navigation and system constraints of AVs
a. Explanation of the supporting idea
AVs may not be able to respond or react in a situation that involves a large crowd.
e.g. road accidents or a parade etc.
b. Example or citation which supports your assertion
“Autonomous cars notoriously have trouble navigating crowds of pedestrians. They have trouble distinguishing and determining human intention on the roads.”

c. Other statements which help support your assertion
Reading road signs is challenging for a robot. GPS and other technologies might not register obstacles like potholes, recent changes in road conditions, and newly posted signs

VI. Third Supporting Idea - (Level II Controlling Idea)
Costly
a. Explanation of the supporting idea
Many of the average people will not be able to afford an AV as it is expensive.
b. Example or citation which supports your assertion
“High-technology vehicles and equipment are expensive. They prepare a large amount of money for research and development as well as in choosing the finest and most functional materials needed such as the software, modified vehicle parts, and sensors. Thus, the cost of having Autonomous cars is initially higher. “
VII. Conclusion – Review of Main Idea (Tying Yours and That of the Summarized Article’s)
In conclusion, although Singapore has shown steady progress towards the incorporation of driverless vehicles into their transportation system the government needs to look into the constraints and disadvantages of AVs and how to overcome it
